A Conference for and by CYCs Working in Educational Settings
"Just a note to say thank you to all who put on the Brantford Conference…. The Virtues Project workshop has inspired me into some more training. Thanks so much for the opportunity."
An experienced CYC from a residential program in London, Ontario
From classrooms connected to children's mental health hospitals in the 1960s to the present 1500+ CYWs in just about every school board in Ontario, school-based child and youth work has become a major part of the profession. This conference was meant to celebrate that fact. And celebrate we did -- over 230 participants from 22 school boards across Ontario, from Hasting Prince Edward in the east to the Near North Board (North Bay area) west to the Greater Essex Board in the Windsor area.
It was also a time to recognize those school boards soon to have 100% of their CYCs with professional membership in the OACYC. One such board, the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board, shared in sponsoring the Conference. The site of the Conference was that of another of our sponsors -- Mohawk College. The CYW Program at Mohawk has a long history of support for the professional association for the CYCs of Ontario.
"I attended the school-based conference and had a wonderful experience. Keep up the good work." A CYW Student from Centennial College (Scarborough)
"Just a quick note to say thank you again for the conference. The workshops were excellent and I had an enjoyable and productive day. It is great that I can use the information that was provided with my own students." A school-based CYC from the Toronto Catholic District School Board
